Hospice Care

Hospice of the Good Shepherd is a team of skilled professionals, para-professionals and volunteers dedicated to caring for the client and family. Hospice of the Good Shepherd strives to manage pain and symptoms so the client and family can concentrate on important issues and live the last months, weeks and days to the fullest. With the help of hospice, the client and family will be given the opportunity to laugh and love, say goodbye, and the client can die in peace and with dignity.

The Hospice of the Good Shepherd team works with the family and caregivers to help them understand what to expect, to teach them special care giving techniques, and to help them with emotional difficulties. We strive to help families enjoy being together during this difficult time.

Hospice care can be provided in the home, in a skilled nursing facility, in a personal care setting or a hospital.

Many difficult issues arise during the time following a loved one's death. Our bereavement program is designed to help families address these issues and to provide resources and support to aid in the grief recovery process.

When Is It Time to Call Hospice?

Making a decision to call Hospice is often very difficult for families. It's not uncommon for people to think that entering a Hospice program is "giving up". It's not uncommon for a family member to feel guilty about making that call. We understand these feelings and hesitations. However, if you think or have been told that you or your loved one is facing a terminal illness, "now" is the time to call Hospice.

Hospice can help improve the final days, weeks and months of life. It can add living to the client's days when it is no longer reasonable to try to add days to a person's life. Our staff of experts can provide you with the information you need to help make an informed decision about how Hospice can benefit you and your family.

How to Arrange for Hospice Care

If you have a friend or family member who you feel may benefit from hospice, or would like more information, please call our Admission Care Department at 1-800-840-9081. After your initial contact, we will do the rest. We will work with the doctor and the family to determine if hospice care is appropriate. You may also Contact Us via email.

Financial Arrangements

For most people, hospice care is a covered benefit under their health insurance. Others draw on life insurance or other resources such as our benevolent care fund. Concern about financial arrangements should never prevent you from calling on us to provide hospice care when needed.
