VITA Volunteers Needed!

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) helps low and moderate income taxpayers prepare their taxes at no charge.
Lutheran Social Services manages the VITA program at multiple locations in York County and needs your help.

Every hour you donate =
An average of $185 of out-of-pocket tax preparation fees savings
for each York County VITA participant


an average of $1,475 in federal tax refunds returned to York County.

Volunteers are needed for the following positions:

Tax Preparer – Provides professional and accurate free tax return preparation for eligible taxpayers at designated VITA tax preparation locations. 

Phone Scheduler – Works in the VITA centralized call center to schedule appointments for potential clients and tax payers who call for assistance. 

Greeter – Provides vital support to the site and IRS certified volunteer preparers by screening all taxpayers to ensure the taxpayer has all necessary information and documents required to complete a tax return. 

Site Coordinator – Supervise all volunteers assigned to a particular site to ensure that all volunteers adhere to the Volunteer Standards of Conduct and Quality Site Requirements, as specified by the IRS. All site coordinators must be trained and certified VITA tax preparers. 

*Site coordinator positions have been filled for the 2014 tax filing season. 

No prior tax preparation experience is needed. Free training is provided.
You may choose to volunteer at any of the VITA tax preparation sites in Dover, Hanover, Shrewsbury or York.
