The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, commonly known as VITA, helps low and moderate income taxpayers prepare their tax returns at no charge. As part of its Community Outreach Services, Lutheran Social Services (LSS) is once again managing the VITA program at multiple locations in York County. Continue reading to learn more about the options available.

LSS offers two FREE tax preparation

and filing options!

Option #1: In-Person Tax Preparation and Filing

Call us at 717.854.2244 on or after January 21 to schedule an in-person tax preparation appointment. Our trained staff will help you prepare your federal, state and local taxes and file them for you for online at no cost. This option is available for those with a household income of $52,000 or less.

Option #2: Online Tax Preparation and Filing

Visit to complete and file your tax return for free any time of the day or night. This option is available to all taxpayers; however filing is free for those with a household income of $58,000 or less. For those whose income exceeds this amount, electronic filing of your state and federal tax returns is available for a cost less than other well-known tax preparation providers.
