What we do:
Congregational Health Ministers participate in a free 12-hour training course for congregation members. In addition, LSS offers a Resource Center for educational materials and support group meetings with other Parish Nurse and Congregational Health Ministers. Training is offered in Adams, Cumberland, Franklin and Fulton Counties.
Why we do it:
Congregational Health Ministry is often carried out by a team that helps members of its congregation to live enriched lives – physically, emotionally and spiritually.
The team provides health education and other resources. The team may be comprised of RNs, functioning as parish nurses; LPNs; social workers; educators; counselors; nutritionists; and others. Although preferable, a parish nurse is not essential to an effective congregational health ministry.
The congregational health minister is a facilitator and an advocate, focusing on prevention and promoting activities that promote self-growth, including workshops and wellness programs.
