The Deaf Center is a great resource for the d/Deaf or Hearing community. We offer
many specialized services with knowledgeable staff. We strive to provide outstanding
quality for our Interpreting services, Sign Language classes, Deaf Awareness,
Advocacy and Educational Services for the d/Deaf.
There is an ever-increasing demand for interpreting services throughout the United
States. Employers and service providers recognize the d/Deaf or Hard of Hearing
person’s legal right to have an interpreter present in daily life situations.
Interpreters are provided for legal, medical, religious and job-related services.
The Deaf Center provides excellent interpreter services to assure communication
between d/Deaf or Hard of Hearing persons and hearing persons in these instances.
The Deaf Center provides speakers for community groups, especially those that
offer services to d/Deaf or Hard of Hearing persons. These speakers help the hearing
community to understand the unique challenges faced by those who are deaf, as
well as to recognize the abilities members of the d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing community
have to offer.
Advocacy The Deaf Center also provides advocacy as needed for the d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing
community as well as on an individual basis. Our office is available to the public,
providing information about d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing, laws, interpreters, communication
needs, equipment, etc. We offer assistance to d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing persons to help secure state
and generic resources. We encourage individuals to learn to navigate various state
and federal systems, so that they can become their own advocates. We strive to be on the cutting edge of knowledge relating to d/Deaf culture,
ensuring that our staff members are efficient advocates within our local community. Specialized Library
Our specialized library represents the area’s most comprehensive source of information
on the deaf community. Books and DVDs are available on deafness, deaf culture,
sign language and other related topics. Services to Persons Who Are Growing Deaf in Their Adult Years
